Reflecting on the first artwork in my Cycle Breakers series …

There are people who don’t want me to be trapped and stifled. There are people who love me for who I am and want me to be free.

There is fire running through my veins. And I'll say it in paint.

I have hope. I find hope, over and over and over again. But maybe today, I just want to acknowledge how tiring that’s been.

Give me respect or leave me alone. It's that simple.

Yes, something so cracked can survive. I know that now.

Oh, the dualities of decision-making!

I choose honesty over sugar-coating and looking the other way.

For a while, I think I wished I could just enter some cocoon like a caterpillar and emerge a butterfly one final time.

Life is lived in the in-betweens, in the messy, in progress, in the here and now, one moment at a time.

It’s about living and feeling my doubts and letting them co-exist with my faith.

Digging has its place. Brick-laying has its place too. And so does floating.

It's more than obtaining a physical object. It's an act of support.

The truth is this is just me being me and I bring who I am to what I do, no matter what I do.

Yet, exploring the magic of existence isn’t all butterflies and glistening ocean waves.

Each passing moment is living proof of our power to savor the bittersweet and regard our lives as precious.
